I have to admit that it’s taken me far too long to review the ThermoPro TP19H Digital Instant-Read Thermometer.
It could be that it was released shortly after the highly-rated ThermoPro TP19, causing some confusion over if there were any noticeable differences between the two.

There are indeed some differences, in features and price, so I felt it necessary to explore these discrepancies.
Here’s the review of the ThermoPro TP19 Instant-Read Meat Thermometer.
The most visible disparity is in the price difference between the TP19H and the TP19.
At the time of this review, the TP19H costs $17.99, and the TP19 is $29.99.
Another ThermoPro model, the ThermoPro TP605, costs a little less with a few fewer features as well.

A selection of highly accurate meat thermometers including the ThermaPen ONE, FireBoard 2 Drive, Thermoworks ThermaQ, and the Maverick PT-100.
See how the TP19H compares to the Maverick PT-100 Pro Temp Meat Thermometer.
This begs the question, is the TP19 worth the extra money?
I will answer that question and a few more in this review of the ThermoPro TP19H Digital Instant-Read Meat Thermometer.
ThermoPro TP19H Digital Instant-Read Meat Thermometer
ThermoPro has produced many highly-rated thermometry products including many instant-read food thermometers such as the TP19H.
It is a company that listens to what its customers are saying and implements that feedback into the design of new products.
I don’t really need to sing their praises, all you need to do is take a look at the thousands of reviews of ThermoPro thermometers.
They make quality products that last.
The ThermoPro TP620 is considered their top-of-the-line offering when it comes to instant-read meat thermometers, with the TP19 a very close second.
Here’s the review of the ThermoPro TP620.
Where does the ThermoPro TP19H stand in the hierarchy of ThermoPro Instant-Read Thermometers?
I think it’s easily in the top three with the two aforementioned ThermoPro models and it might be the best value considering its low price compared to its features.
Features of the ThermoPro TP19H
Here are all of the important features of the ThermoPro TP19H.
- Fast and Accurate Temperature Readings
The reported response time is 3 to 4 seconds and that is what I’ve experienced while testing it.
- Waterproof Rating IP65
An IP rating of 65 correlates to a device being sprayed with water jets from every angle with no harmful effects. This means you can wash it off under running water.
- 180° Auto-Rotating Display
The screen will rotate around or upside-down so that you can come at your food from either hand.
- Motion Sensing Sleep and Wake Mode
The thermometer will go to sleep after 90 seconds of not being used and will wake up when the probe is extended and you pick it up.
- Lock Function
You can lock and hold a temperature if you need by pressing the lock function.
- Calibration Function
There is a calibration button inside the battery compartment if the thermometer ever becomes inaccurate.
- Large Backlight Display
Large digits on a backlit screen that stays illuminated for 17 seconds.
- Food Grade Stainless-Steel Probe
- Magnetic Back
- Kitchen Hook
- Fahrenheit/Celsius Selector
You can switch between Fahrenheit and Celsius readings by pressing the selector button on the back.
Specifications
- Response Time: 3-4 seconds
- Accuracy: +-0.9°F
- Probe Length: 4.3 Inches
- Auto Shut Off: 90 Seconds
- Temperature Range: -58°F~572°F
Usability
The TP19H is pretty straightforward in its functioning with a nice rotating screen that stays backlit for 17 seconds.
The temperature readout speed is as advertised around 4 seconds.
The thermometer will also go to sleep after laying idle for 90 seconds and will turn back on when you pick it up.
Accuracy
I tested the TP19H with its sibling, the very-accurate TP19, in a measuring cup of hot water.
The response times were very similar with very similar readings.
Which one was faster? It was hard to tell. I consider both fast and accurate enough for any cooking situation.
Durability
The TP19H is rated IP65 waterproof, meaning that it is protected from water jets projected at it with no harmful effects.
The body itself feels sturdy enough with a rubber gasket seal protecting the middle seam of the thermometer where the front and back come together.
Durability is a trait tested over time, so we shall see how the TP19H fares.
ThermoPro does have a limited one-year warranty that you can extend to three years when you register your thermometer with them online at buythermopro.com/warranty-registration/.
Price
The current price of the ThermoPro TP19H is around $17.99. I would consider it one of the best, if not the best, instant-read meat thermometers you can buy for under $20.
The ThermoPro TP19 currently runs $29.99. Is the extra dough worth it? Let’s take a look.
ThermoPro TP19H vs ThermoPro TP19
What are the differences between the ThermoPro TP19H and the ThermoPro TP19?
The ThermoPro TP19 has a faster response time of 2 to 3 seconds versus the 3 to 4 second response time of the ThermoPro TP19H.
The ThermoPro TP19 has an antimicrobial coating to inhibit bacterial growth while the TP19H has no coating.
There’s a 1/4-inch difference in probe length between the TP19 (4.5 inches) and the TP19H (4.3 inches).
The TP19 has a red digital display that is easy to see in daylight and in the dark while the TP19H has a backlit display that stays illuminated for 17 seconds after you press the light button.
Last, but not least, the TP19 has a price tag of $29.99 compared to the $17.99 price of the TP19H.
The two thermometers also share a lot of similarities, making the ThermoPro TP19H a very intriguing buy at a much lower price.
Final Thoughts
As you’ve seen in this review, there isn’t a whole lot that separates the ThermoPro TP19H from the ThermoPro TP19 in terms of features.
Although the TP19H is rated a little slower in reading temperatures, I’ve found the difference in speed between the two thermometers not glaringly obvious.
I could make a case for purchasing either thermometer, giving a slight edge to the TP19.
But considering that the TP19H costs 40% less with most of the same features as the TP19, I think you would be just as happy adding it to your kitchen toolkit.
